The One With the DVDs

Chandler leads Thirteen up to his room, which still kind of bothers him. He's got half a mind to trade the blue flannel sheets in for something else.

"Bar thinks it's funny, or something," he explains, in case she's seen more of the show than she's letting on.

He finds the remote on the floor, and fiddles with the still unfamiliar technology. "Make yourself... comfortable."

Thirteen does just as asked, finding somewhere to seat herself for the episode while she watches Chandler fiddle with the controls.

"Why would I find it funny?"

"It's just like my room at home," Chandler explains. Yep, even all the weird toys and action figures mirror his own collection.

He eventually gets everything queued up and sits back on the bed, leaving plenty of room between himself and Thirteen. The episode screen baffles him, with titles like, 'The One with the Sonogram at the End' and 'The One with George Stephanopoulos.'

"They seriously couldn't come up with any better titles?" Chandler asks, selecting an episode at random. It turns out to be 'The One with the Thumb.'

"I think they're neat. It's how you usually describe an episode to someone, isn't it?"

Chandler thinks about this. "I guess?" he agrees. "I mostly just watch Baywatch and Spanish soaps, though."

Not a whole lot of difference in the episodes from his perspective.

He hits play and immediately regrets it. "Oh, I don't think I can watch this," he says as the episode starts.

He does nothing to stop it, however.

She glances over at him from the television screen.

"What's wrong?"

To his credit, he's making a fair effort to watch as... Well, as he and Joey are running lines in what is very much their apartment.

"Okay, this is just weird," Chandler says. "Is my hair really that bad?"

[numbered_doctor]

Thirteen looks from the TV Chandler, to the one sitting beside her, then back at the TV.

"Yes."

"Thanks for that," Chandler says flatly.

A few moments later, he realises what's actually happening in this scene, and what's worse, he remembers it.

"Oh, no," he groans. It's like watching incriminating evidence against yourself.

Eyebrows raise and he looks over at Chandler.

"You smoked?"

"Since I was nine," Chandler says, his hands covering his face.

[numbered_doctor]

"I smoke," she admits in an attempt to cheer him up some. "Mind you, it's not very often."

[pickyourmoments]

Chandler waves vaguely at the television. "Keep watching, and you'll see why I don't," Chandler says.

Sure enough, it's only a matter of seconds before Joey starts chasing him around the apartment, trying to take the cigarette from him.

Thirteen chokes back a snort of laughter.

"Really? That's what it took?"

"Not exactly," Chandler says. "Take that, and multiply that by five. One for each friend."

After TV!Chandler went to put out a fire (which had actually ruined their sofa in his reality) from Joey flicking a lit cigarette across the room, Chandler shook his head.

"After that, Joey locked me out," he says. "They didn't show that, though."

Thank god.

"It's lucky you weren't dressed in anything embarrassing."

"You should have seen me at New Years," Chandler says honestly.

If she's really curious, they have that episode, too.

He takes a few moments to figure out the time leap between getting locked out of his own apartment, and them talking about the size of certain organs down at the coffee house.

"Okay, this was like, two days later. Why am I still wearing the same thing?"

She shrugs.

"Easier on the wardrobe department?"

[pickyourmoments]

Chandler shrugs. "Yeah," he concedes.

He watches in baited silence as Rachel got all of their orders wrong. "They actually showed that?" Chandler wondered aloud. "How embarrassing for her."

Even he had to laugh when everybody swapped drinks.

"So, erm... which one's Jennifer...Addison?" he asks. He's only heard the name Jennifer Aniston once, from someone in the bar.

Thirteen watches on, amused at the antics on screen.

"Jennifer Aniston? She plays Rachel."

[pickyourmoments]

"Huh. And she does other things?" Chandler asks.

[numbered_doctor]

A nod.

"Sure. She's done a bunch of romantic comedies. She even dated Brad Pitt for a while."

[pickyourmoments]

"Who?"

Chandler's world is oddly devoid of celebrities. Mainly because they're all regular people in his world.

"I'm usually not this ignorant. I just don't know who any of these people are," he insists.

[numbered_doctor]

"I'll find you something with her in it later."

[pickyourmoments]

"Okay," Chandler says easily, just as TV!Monica catches TV!Chandler smoking in the coffee house.

"See, this," Chandler says, pointing. "They're gonna turn this around, and make it all about them. Watch!"

Sure enough, TV!Ross mentions how much hell they all went through last time TV!Chandler quit smoking.

She makes a soft, agreeable noise.

"To be fair, people who quit smoking can be really, really crabby."

[pickyourmoments]

And soon, she'll see that this is indeed the case with Chandler.

"Yeah, but it's not as bad as they make it out to be," he insists. "So, who are these other people? Do they do anything?"

[numbered_doctor]

"Other people? You mean the actors?"

[pickyourmoments]

"Yeah," Chandler says. "I doubt any of them exist where I'm from, either."

He's suddenly very fascinated in the show. He's never seen what it looks like where Monica works, and he suddenly wishes that he has, so he could have a good frame of reference.

"Well they've all gone on and done other things, I believe. Courteney Cox Arquette plays Monica, Lisa Kudrow plays Phoebie, Matt LeBlanc is Joey, Ross is played by David Schwimmer, and your actor is Matthew Perry."
